Alice Pocta, 81, Bismarck, formerly of Braddock, died at her home on Thursday, March 5, 2015.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10:30 AM at Legacy United Methodist Church in Bismarck with Rev. Kermit Culver officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at Eastgate Funeral Service in Bismarck. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Alice was born on November 16, 1933, on the family farm north of Braddock, ND, the seventh child of thirteen children born to Emil and Katherina (Landenberger) Preszler. She attended a rural country school.
Prior to getting married, she lived in Steele and worked at the Fairway Grocery Store and Meat Locker for her uncle, Julius Preszler.
Alice married Milo Pocta on October 24, 1954, and they made their home on a farm south of Braddock. Milo and Alice were blessed with two daughters.
Alice was busy as a homemaker and mom, in addition, she helped out on the farm. She was involved with their two daughters' school and church activities. Alice was a member of the Braddock United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was involved with the United Methodist Women. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the Lamplighters Homemakers Club. Alice worked at the local grocery store in Braddock when operated under George's U Save and Andy's Super Value.
In 2004 Milo and Alice retired and moved to Bismarck. She was currently a member of Legacy United Methodist Church where she volunteered in the kitchen for Wednesday night ministry. She also worked at Noah's Ark, a childcare center, where she enjoyed being called grandma by the children.
Alice's greatest joy was spending time with her family and she held a special place in her heart for her children and grandchildren. In November of 2014 she became a 'great-grandma'.
She loved to crochet afghans, embroider dish towels, and work in her garden and yard. She will be remembered for canning, cooking, baking and sewing … much of which she shared with her neighbors, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo; her parents; one brother, Raymond Preszler; and two sisters, Irene Leno and Leona Pocta
