Henry Kauffung
Henry Kauffung, one of the venerable citizens of West Bend and a pioneer of this section of the county, passed to the fields of eternity at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24. Mr. Kauffung had been ill only a few days, a sufferer with senility.
He was born August 14, 1840 in Buffalo, New York and in 1841 moved with his parents to Milwaukee. From 1865 to 1883 he resided at Boltonville, following which he made Newburg his home for a number of years. For 10 years his place of residence was at Young America and fourteen years ago he came to West Bend and purchased a home on 4th Avenue, where he resided up to the time of his death.
Mr Kauffung married Miss Catherine Bauer on February 22, 1864, the latter predeceasing him May 25, 1912. Two sons – William and Henry – were born to them. Henry predeceased his father October 19, 1916, while a resident of Milwaukee. He also leaves a brother – Louis Kauffung – of California and five grandchildren – Mrs. Irene Sage and Clarence, Raymond, Marcella and Dolores Kauffung of Milwaukee.
Mr. Kauffung, while a resident of Boltonville and Newburg, was engaged in the saloon business.
His secon wife was Catherine Korten, also predeceasing him.
Mr. Kauffung was a joy and cheerful man, a splendid citizen and a good husband and father, and all who knew him very much regret his death. His funeral was held last Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock from DeTuncq’s undertaking parlors, the Rev. Alfred H. Otto officiating. Interment was made in Holy Angels Cemetery.
