Zander, 76, rural Mandan, died Jan. 4, 2009, surrounded by his family at Medcenter One, Bismarck. Mass of Christian. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Joshua Waltz as celebrant. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a rosary/parish vigil at 7 p.m. There will be no visitation at the church on Wednesday. Tom was born Dec. 1, 1932, in Crown Butte, the son of George F. and Veronica (Stein) Zander. He was raised on the family farm northwest of Mandan and attended country school near home. On June 23, 1955, he married Marlene Voigt at St. Vincent's Catholic Church. They shared a wonderful life together raising their eight children and built their life farming and ranching. Tom was a devoted husband and father. Very hardworking and determined, he worked many hours to build his farm to what it is today. He was proud to have lived and worked on his family farm his entire life. Tom enjoyed watching sports and was especially proud of his toy tractor collection. Tom will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Left with many fond memories are four sons, Kim (Landy), Loveland, Colo., Thomas Jr. (Nancy), Gene (Wendy) and Doug (Jodi), all of Mandan; three daughters, Laura Ferderer, Denver, Anita Zander, Mandan, and DeAnn (David) Bueligen, New Salem; 20 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; special family members, Dennis Gustin and Dave Ferderer; three sisters, Eleanor (Wes) Schumacher, Great Falls, Mont., Marie (Matt) Pfliger, Cottonwood, Ariz., and Sally Hammergren, Park Rapids, Minn.; and one brother, Larry Zander, Colorado. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; his parents; one daughter, LaDonna Gustin; and two sisters, Catherine Schlosser and Julia Lamb.
