Fr. Arthur M. Nist
Age 95, died Thursday. Born in Canton, he attended St.
Peter's Grade School and McKinley High School. He was a graduate of St. Charles Seminary in Catonsville, Maryland and St. Mary Seminary in Cleveland. Father was ordained a Catholic Priest on May 18, 1940 by the late Archbishop Joseph Schrembs of Cleveland.
He served as an Assistant Pastor at St. Boniface, Cleveland; St. Mary, Warren; St. Mary, Massillon; Sacred Heart, Youngstown; and St. Aloysius, East Liverpool.
He served as Pastor at St. John Summitville; St. Ann East Liverpool; Blessed Sacrament (Started Parish), Warren; and St. Joseph, Canton until his retirement in 1979.
Father served as Religion Instructor at Mount Marie Academy and Ursuline High School, Trustee and Vice President of Clergy Relief Society, Diocesan Liturgical Commission, Board of Diocesan Consultors, Diocesan Board of Education, and Chaplain of the Warren Council Knights of Columbus.
Survived by a number of cousins and his long time housekeeper, Lois A. Heck.
A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Canton with Msgr. Robert Siffrin as Principal Celebrant. Homilist will be Msgr. Frank Carfagna. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Monday from 4-7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Canton. The Lamiell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
