Alvin Edwin Graf was born September 25, 1915 in Newberry Township, southwest of Medina, ND, the son of Rudolph and Eva (Oberlander) Graf. He was raised in the Medina area and attended Newberry Township School #1. He worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps for 27 months beginning in 1934. He then farmed with his parents and worked on construction jobs in the area. On December 12, 1939, he married Alice L. Webber at Page, ND and they moved to Medina, ND where they operated Graf Standard Station until 1942. They moved to Carrington, ND where Alvin worked for the Northern Pacific and Burlington Railroad. In 1947, they moved to Fargo, ND, where he worked as a bridge and building carpenter for Northern Pacific Railroad. Alvin and Alice moved to Jamestown, ND in 1949 where they lived until 1969 while Alvin worked as a carpenter. In 1969, they returned to Fargo, ND where he was a shop carpenter in Dillworth, MN. He retired in 1976 and they moved to Medina, ND. In 1994 they returned to Jamestown, ND. Alice died in 2006. Alvin was a member of St. James Basilica and a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Medina, ND. He was a member of the Elks, the Eagles, the Moose Lodge, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Lodge, the Bismarck Amvets and the Lions Club. Alvin enjoyed bowling, golf, volunteer work and liked to travel. Survivors include 2 brothers: James Graf, Fergus Falls, MN; Norman Graf, Bismarck, ND; 2 sisters: Lucille Shepard, Toledo, OH; Margaret Sam, Bismarck, ND and many nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; a son, Dennis; 5 brothers; 2 sisters and an infant sister. Funeral – 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND Visitation – 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Thursday Interment – Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND
