Eugene Schnabel
Funeral services for Eugene Schnabel age 84 of Isabel will be 2:00 PM MDT Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church in Isabel. Burial will be in the Hillview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Wednesday, March 11, 2015 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the church. Eugene passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Eugene "Gene" Ivan Schnabel was born August 18, 1930 in Ashley, ND the eldest son of Helmuth and Inez (Brinkman) Schnabel. After living in North Dakota for two years, the Schnabel's moved to Isabel, SD in 1932. They later moved to the Firesteel area in 1934. Gene began grade school at the Leebelt School and later attended grade school in Firesteel. Gene was 11 years old when his next brother; Gerald, was born, and two years later another brother; Gary, joined the Schnabel family.
In August 29, 1950 Gene married Lucille Pladsen in Pierre, SD. To this union one child, Leland Eugene, was born. At the time of his death, Gene and Lucille had been married for 64 years, 6 months, and 5 days. He was looking forward to celebrating his 65 wedding anniversary with Lucille.
Gene was extremely proud to call Isabel his home for almost the entirety of his live. During his years in Isabel Gene served in various capacities on the Isabel School Board, and served in various capacities on the Isabel City Board. He was a proud supporter of the Isabel Volunteer Fire Department.
Gene is survived by his wife Lucille, and one son, Leland, of Houston Texas.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents; Helmuth and Inez Schnabel, and one brother; Gary Schnabel, and one nephew; Wade Schnabel.
