Obituary for Ronald Haag
Ronald Haag, 82, Mandan, died January 22, 2015 at Sanford Health Sunset Drive Continuing Care Center, Mandan.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with Rev. Shane Campbell celebrating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Monday, January 26 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with a Parish Rosary / Vigil at 7 pm. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
Ron was born November 19, 1932 in Mandan to Peter and Mathilda "Tillie" (Beehler) Haag. He attended school at St. Joseph and Mandan public schools. Ron entered the US Navy in 1952, serving in Korea, and was honorably discharged in 1956. On May 11, 1959 he married LaVerne Freidig at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Returning home to Mandan, Ron owned and operated Skelly Service Station with his father, Pete. Ron later worked as an industrial salesman for Modern Machine, Kendeco Supply, and Midway Diesel and Electric. He retired from Rigging and Tools. On May 11, 2009 Ron and LaVerne were blessed to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends.
Ron was a 52 year member of the Mandan Eagles Club, serving as President, Treasurer, Conductor, and for many years as Worthy President on the Ritual Team. He was also a 40 year member of the American Legion and Mandan Moose. Ron entered the nursing home two years ago due to Lewy Body Dementia. He was the Valentines' Day King in 2014. Ron was a very friendly and caring person who loved dancing, attending Polka fests, playing cards, hunting, fishing, and bowling. His family was most important to him and they will always remember the calm, kind hearted man they love dearly.
Blessed to have shared his life is his wife, LaVerne Haag, Mandan; daughters, Brenda (Richard) Kopp and Candace (Mark) Joersz, all of Fort Worth, TX; son, Bryan (Denice) Haag, Mandan; grandchildren, Lindsey (Greg) Roberts, Fort Worth, TX and Matthew Haag, Mandan; two sisters, Ruby Morrell, Mandan and Janice Poole, SC; brother, Robert
(Renee) Haag, MN; and step sister, Judy (Norman) Olzweski, Mandan.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arthur and Raymond Haag; infant sister, Julie Ann; and sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth “Bettie” (John) Deichert.
