Born June 12, 1912, in Somerset, daughter of the late William and Hulda (Berkey) Edmiston. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Shaffer, in 2004, whom she wed Aug. 31, 1933; sisters, Beatrice Critchfield, Fannie Brendle and Lonie Belcher; and brothers, Harry, Foster, Reynold and William Jr. She is survived by daughters, Elaine, married to Bruce Cooper, Surprise, Ariz., and Nancy, St. Petersburg, Fla.; and sister, Betty, California; also eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Florence was a graduate of Shippensburg University and taught for many years in the Windber and Paint school districts. She was a member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren and an associate member of the St. Petersburg Church of the Brethren. Interment, Berkey Church of the Brethren Cemetery.
