Mildred E. "Peggy" Moon, 87, of Annawan, passed away Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at Hillcrest Home, Geneseo.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Fairview United Methodist Church, rural Sheffield. The Rev. Dan Wright will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends of Peggy may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Vandemore Funeral Home, Atkinson. Memorials may be left to the Mildred "Peggy" Moon Memorial Fund to be distributed to several local charities.
Peggy was born June 20, 1922, in Prophetstown, the daughter of Albert Clarence and Otilla Lenninger Specht. She attended Hooppole schools. Peggy was united in marriage to Wilbur J. Moon on June 21, 1945, in Annawan.
She had been a waitress at the former Sauk Trail Inn Restaurant, Annawan, for 18 years, a dietitian at Hillcrest Home for 1-1/2 years, and ran the Kewanee Sale Barn Restaurant for eight years. Peggy last waitressed at the Purple Onion Restaurant, Annawan, from which she retired. She was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, Ladies Aid Society, and the La Femmes 40 & 8. Peggy enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and most of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbur; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cherie and Gale Witte, Annawan, Mary Jane and James Causemaker, Colona, Lora and Jim Hurt, DeSota, Ill.; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Moon, Aurora, Ill.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Francis DeDecker, Sheffield. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and two brothers.
