Birth: Jul. 7, 1932 Wesley Kossuth County Iowa, USA Death: Jan. 13, 2014 Algona Kossuth County Iowa, USA John Foertsch, age 81, of Algona and formerly of Wesley, Iowa died on January 13, 2014 at the Algona Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley, with Rev. Peter Nguyen officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Andrews American Legion Post #428 of Wesley. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with a 4 PM Rosary and a 7 PM Scripture Service. The Lentz Funeral Home in Algona is serving the family. John Louis Foertsch was born July 7, 1932 in Wesley, Iowa to William and Theresia (Wirth) Foertsch. John was the twelfth child out of thirteen. He attended St. Joseph Parochial School in Wesley and helped farm. John was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 22, 1955. He returned home and farmed with his brother William and sister Rosemary. John moved to Algona in 2012 and lived in his home until September 2013 when he became a resident of the Algona Manor Care Center. John was a 50 year member of the Andrews American Legion Post #428 of Wesley. He enjoyed spending time with his many nephews and nieces. He especially enjoyed his great nephew Adam Foertsch, who lived with them for a few years. John was a crafter, making toy animals and fences for the many children that came to his home. He also enjoyed collecting Oliver memorabilia especially toy die cast Oliver tractors. Many Sunday nights were spent playing six handed pinochle. He was a good hearted man and will truly be missed. John is survived by his brother, Ed and Agnes Foertsch of Algona; a sister, Irene and Lyle Kuyper of Algona. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight sisters, Angelian Foertsch, Sr. Mary Leon Foertsch, Mandelian Grant, Sr. Mary Dorothea Foertsch, Imelda Heinen, Marie Heinen, Neomi Heinen and Rosemary Foertsch; and two brothers, George and William Foertsch.
