Laura Marie Schumacher 08/31/2014 BY SUNSETCARLSEN LEAVE A COMMENT Laura Marie Schumacher Date of Birth: May 23, 1932 Died on: August 29, 2014 Laura Marie Schumacher, 82, of Leola, SD died on Friday, August 29, 2014 at ManorCare Health Services of Aberdeen. Laura Marie Breitag, daughter of Albert and Esther (Guthmiller) Breitag was born on May 23, 1932 west of Leola. This is the area where she was raised and attended school. Laura was baptized and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola. As a farm girl she helped neighbor ladies cook for the threshers and helped clean house. Laura went to work for Breitag?s Market in Leola, Tonner?s Piggly Wiggly in Aberdeen and eventually moved to Minneapolis where she worked for Red Owl as a bookkeeper and checker. Laura was united in marriage to Henry Schumacher on November 24, 1960 at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola. Over the years Henry built many homes in the area and Laura helped with the wood finishing and painting for many years. She also worked for Peavey and Homestead Building Supply. Laura enjoyed working on her genealogy and loved her flowers. She will be remembered by many for being a very good cook and baker. Over the years she was active in her church teaching both Sunday school and confirmation classes. Laura was member of WELCA and served in various offices. She was a past president, secretary and treasurer of the McPherson County Easter Seal Society and a lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church. Laura was the caregiver to her mother for many years and also enjoyed visiting with her family and friends. Laura is survived by her in-laws and many nieces and nephews.
