Olive Lapka (March 13, 1924 - October 26, 2010) Guest Book | Sign Guest Book | Send Private Condolences Olive Lapka The funeral service for Olive Lapka, 86, of Leola, is 10:00 am Saturday, October 30, 2010 at St. James Lutheran Church in Leola. Burial will be in Green Mound Cemetery in Leola. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Olive was born on March 13, 1924 at Leola, SD to John P. and Maria (Krein) Guthmiller. She grew up on the family farm. Olive attended rural school in Howard Township and graduated from Leola High School in 1942. She married Frank Lapka on July 29, 1945 at Leola. They made their home on the farm. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, cats, baking and crafts. Olive found Scrabble on the computer and reading to be a comfort after Frank’s death. Olive loved raising her son, Kevin, and watching her three grandchildren grow up next door. She was a long time member of St. James Lutheran Church where she was active with the St. James Women of the ELCA. She was also a member of the Country Club extension group. Olive died Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. Thankful for having shared in her life are her son, Kevin (Kay) Lapka of Leola; grandchildren, Kara (Lance) Tuhy of Lisbon, ND, Mark (Holly) Lapka of Leola and Lana (James) Deng of Fargo, ND; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Ella Eichelberg of Aberdeen and two sisters-in-law, Della Guthmiller of Aberdeen and Delphy Palmer of Biggs, CA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Frank, on Dec. 30, 2005, six brothers and six sisters.
