Richard Ressler was born Jan. 4, 1928, in Bismarck, the son of Valentine and Katherine (Leingang) Ressler. On Sept. 16, 1957, he married Josephine Leingang in St. Anthony.
Richard had an easy, friendly, outgoing manner in visiting with friends and displayed that manner when meeting new people. He was truly a gentle giant with a positive attitude and strong sense of faith which included his daily prayer life and daily mass attendance.
Having lived on the farm most of his life suited him well as he loved nature and all that the land produced. He lived life to the fullest, especially enjoying the simple things, such as, a Sunday drive to view the features of the landscape-wheat fields and grazing cattle. Richard and his cousin, Don Ressler, had a variety of recipes for country style sausage and the free samples were prized and appreciated. After retiring from the farm, he drove bus for the Little Heart School District. He did this for 17 years, enjoying the children and they, in turn, developed a fondness for him.
In all of this, Richard's family and grandchildren remained the highpoint of his life. These few cherished memories will forever linger in the hearts and minds of all who knew him.
Richard will be fondly remember and missed by his loving family, five daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy (Lynn) Gustin, Mandan, Carla (Tim) Tausend, Mandan, Vicki (Rocco) Morelli, Long Beach, N.Y., Betty Jo (Keith) Kautzman, Mandan, Tina (Tad) Pritchett, Mandan; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Richard Ressler, Jr., Fort Rice, Ben Ressler, Bismarck, Bill (Candace) Ressler, Mandan; 13 grandchildren, Mallory and Kyle Gustin, Brianna, Skylar and Dmitri Tausend, Keaton and Kelbi Pritchett, Tiara, Jessica, Trey and Braden Ressler, Kylie and McKenna Kautzman; his former wife, Josephine Ressler, Mandan; two sisters, Eleanore Schmidt, Mandan and Isabelle Hatzenbuhler, Mandan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Valentine and Katherine and two brothers-in-law, John Schmidt and Fred Hatzenbuhler.
