He was born in Coal City on Oct. 4, 1925 to Thomas F. and Jennie Faletti Wharrie. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Jeanette Rodino and a brother, Thomas W. Wharrie. He is survived by his wife, Delora Nafziger Wharrie; his son, R. Lane (Nina) Wharrie; a sister, Elizabeth Engel of California; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific during World War II as a cryptologist.
