Robert J. “Bob” Ubelhor, 79, of Newburgh passed from this life at 11:26 pm, Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at his home with his beloved family at his side.
Bob was born May 22, 1935 in Evansville the son of the late Albert and Aline (Elliott) Ubelhor. He was a 1953 graduate of Bosse High School and a graduate of Evansville College (U of E). Bob was a member of Oak Hill Church of Christ, serving as an elder and Bible teacher. Bob and June (Powers) married June 22, 1956 in Evansville and enjoyed 58 rich years of marriage. He was a retired U.S. Air Force Captain, having a 9 ½ years military career shortened by a health issue. Bob then spent 29 years as a Keller Crescent Company executive, retiring in 1997. Military awards included the Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, four Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards, National Defense Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. His Evansville community activities included board member and volunteer for March of Dimes, Evansville Association for Retarded Citizens (past President), SW Indiana Easter Seals Society, Operation City Beautiful, ALS Association, and SCORE (past Chair).
The family wishes to thank the dedicated doctors and nurses, who played such an important role in Bob’s quality of life throughout much of his adult life, especially Dr. Maqbool Ahmed.
Besides June, his wife and best friend, Bob’s survivors are son, Michael V. Ubelhor (Sheila) of Indianapolis, IN, daughter, Carla J. Dodson (Terry) of Hopkinsville, KY, daughter, Diane L. Wunderlich (Paul) of Newburgh, IN, sister, Shirley A. Sisson (Jerry) of St. Louis, MO, sister, Doris J. Risley of Nashville, TN, brother, Paul L. Ubelhor (Nancy), of Evansville, brother, Kent R. Ubelhor (Brenda) of Chrisney, IN, sister, Diane S. Grundy (James) of St. Augustine, FL, brother, William G. Ubelhor (Vicki) of Scottsburg, IN, grandchildren, Zachary Wunderlich (Allyson), Erin Dodson, Allie (Wunderlich) Gray (David), Reid Dodson, Mitchell Ubelhor, and Ashley (Ubelhor) Brown and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Aline Ubelhor, sister, Kathy and brothers, James and Mark.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel –A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville with Pastor John Riley and Pastor Terry Liles officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery where the Vanderburgh County Retired Veterans Memorial Club will perform full military rites.
Friends may call from 2 pm until 7 pm, Friday, April 10, 2015 at Boone Funeral Home - East Chapel and again from 9 am until time of service at 10 am, Saturday.
