Benz married Joseph Smith and they lived on Roumfort Rd. in the Mt. Airy section of Philadelphia. Together they had three sons. The eldest two are living, but the youngest, Stephen Kevin John Smith Maguire, passed away in 2004 of cancer. Dorothy loved working with children. She ran a daycare out of her home when her own children were young, and in later years she was a naturalist and educator at the Peace Valley Nature Center in Bucks County, PA. She often took her sons to Hawk Mountain in Berks County, PA. She was also active with the Catholic women's group, Grailville. Dorothy herself battled cancer for several years and died in October 1996. She is buried at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, just outside of Philadelphia.
