Verna Dewald, 85, Jamestown, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown.
Verna Wentz was born April 23, 1917, on the family farm southwest of Streeter, N.D., in Logan County, the daughter of Peter and Louise (Essig) Wentz. She grew up and attended the local rural school, where she received her elementary education, and helped on the family farm. She married Adolph Dewald on Oct. 18, 1934, at Streeter. They lived with his mother until 1935 when they moved to Montana. In 1936 they moved back to the family farm where they farmed until 1966, when they moved into Streeter. In 1967 they moved to Jamestown. Following their retirement they continued to live in Jamestown and later moved to Medina. He died May 21, 1993. She moved to the Gackle (N.D.) Care Center in 1997. In 2002 she moved to Central Dakota Village. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
She is survived by two daughters, Berdella (Leon) Moser, Medina, and Marlious Kinzler, Jamestown; a brother, Milton (Tillie), Bismarck, N.D.; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brother and five sisters.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Terry Anderson officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Wednesday, Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown.
