He attended parochial grade and high school in Larchwood. He attended the Conservatory of Music in Chicago and also Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. "Red" moved to Huron, South Dakota in 1927. On October 29, 1938 he married Viola Kischeman in Huron. He was employed at Nash-Finch Company. from 1949 until 1959 he owned and operated the West View Motel. He is survived by his wife, Viola of Huron, a son, James M. Kiesby of Marquette, Michigan and two grandsons, Justin and Jared Kiesby. He is preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Anna Marie Whisman on March 14, 1983.
