Pauline was born near Streeter, North Dakota on May 30, 1922 to Paul and Mary Gienger. She moved from Jamestown, North Dakota, to Yakima in 1946 with her first husband, Rhinehold Oberlander. She lived in the Yakima area and worked the fruit orchards and apple packing warehouses most of her employable life. She was admired by many for her hard work ethic. Pauline was a vivacious, friendly lady who enjoyed being with her many friends. She was an active, long-time member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Friday night dances at the Vet's Club were one of the highlights in her life. She also loved bowling and playing cards. Some of her most enjoyable times were her travels to Reno to play blackjack and the slot machines. Pauline was a good cook and she will always be remembered for her awesome Thanksgiving dinners. She was a very loving daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She will be missed by many. Pauline is survived by three sisters, Marion Breneisse and Helen Lang of Jamestown, ND, Maggie Mayer of Sacramento, CA; one brother, Wilmer Gienger of Jamestown, ND; two sons, Duane Oberlander and wife Marge of Yakima and Jim Oberlander and wife Cindy, of Bellingham; step-son, Mike and wife Susanne of Yakima; fifteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wood; son, Dale Oberlander; daughter, Marcella Hart; sister, Louise Doctor and brothers Pete Gienger, Paul Gienger and Jake Gienger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Yakima VFW Post #379 in the name of Pauline Wood c/o Keith & Keith Funeral Home 902 W. Yakima Ave Yakima, WA 98902. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Keith & Keith Terrace Heights Chapel.
