Daniel Feickert, 85, formerly of Ault, died Sunday, June 19, at Kenton Manor
Living Center in Greeley.
He was born Oct. 26, 1919, in Leola, S.D., to John A. and Christina (Wacker)
Feickert.
On March 30, 1946, he married Alice Morrison. She died on March 20, 2005.
Mr. Feickert was raised on a dryland farm. At the age of 16, he was in the
Civilian Conservation Corps in Custer, S.D., where he erected Quonset huts.
A severe winter stopped all the work, so he entered the service in March
1947 in San Antonio, Texas, and served in the Army Medical Corps as an
interpreter. He transferred to the Army base in Cheyenne in 1948 and retired
in 1949. He installed Rusco windows in Cheyenne and worked for Commercial
Road Equipment.
Mr. Feickert moved to Colorado in 1955 and worked for Van Why Equipment. He
worked on farm machinery until 1972, then moved to Pueblo to manage a mobile
home court. The year of the Big Thompson flood, he moved to Sterling to
manage the cemetery in Sterling and retired in 1984. He worked at many odd
jobs.
He was a past member of the Odd Fellows and Senior Citizens.
Survivors are two daughters, Barbara C. Hensley of Ault and Ada M. James of
Racine, Wis.; a son, James D. Feickert of Aurora; a sister, Alma (Feickert)
Nies of Pittsburgh, Calif.; three brothers, Leonard Feickert and Benjamin
Feickert, both of Aberdeen, S.D., and Leo Feickert of Lancaster, Calif.;
seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. His parents and seven
sisters and brothers are deceased.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Reflectory at
Northern Colorado Crematory, 700 8th St., Greeley. Cremation.
