Levi Goehring, 94, of Lodi, died on March 11, 2016, at Arbor Nursing Center following heart failure. He was born to P.J. and Christina (Knoll) Goehring, of Lodi, on May 17, 1921.
He attended Victor School, and graduated from Lodi High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946, playing clarinet in the Western Defense Command Band; and then was in the Infantry stationed in Panama and Ecuador.
He married Mavis B. Martin on March 14, 1948, and they lived in Lodi ever since. He farmed with his father, and in 1951, his family built and operated Goehring Meats Inc. for 37 years. Levi retired in 1988.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lodi, where he served as deacon, church treasurer, sang in the choir for 70 years, directed the male chorus, and was chairman of the Membership Care Committee. He made many visits to people in nursing homes. He belonged to American Legion, Lodi Post #22. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, and sports.
Mr. Goehring is survived by his sons, 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a brother, Clifford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; 2 sisters, Emma and Elsie; and 5 brothers, Reuben, Elmer, Harold, Victor, and Ben.
Friends are invited to visit on Thursday, March 17, from 11am-8pm at Lodi Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016, at 11am at First Baptist Church of Lodi. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Lodi at 267 N. Mills Ave., Lodi, CA 95242.
