Katherine Beehler Simon, 87, Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, died May 17, 1999, in a Bismarck hospital. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Robert E. Feeney officiating. Burial will be in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Katherine (Schmidt) Beehler Simon was born Aug. 11, 1911, at Fallon to Michael and Rose (Weinberger) Schmidt. The family moved to the Mandan area in 1944 where Katherine was employed in domestic work. She married Steven Beehler on June 4, 1930, and they were blessed with five children. On Aug. 29, 1956, Steven died. She married Nicholas Simon on June 1, 1957. She and Nick enjoyed traveling after Nick's retirement. She was an avid card player. Nicholas died on June 12, 1985. Katherine has been a resident of Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center since 1994.
Katherine is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Leona Beehler, Mandan; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Tillie and Dennis Connelly, Rosenberg, Texas, and Tom Helbling, Piersz, Minn.; two daughters-in-law, Irene Beehler, Mandan, and Helen Beehler, Bismarck; two stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Gordon and Lila Simon, Casper, Wyo., and Dale and Marie Simon, Mandan; two brothers, Anton Schmidt, Bismarck, and John Schmidt, Mandan; three sisters, Minnie Fleck and Pauline Presler, both of Mandan, and Rose Pitman, Lewistown, Mont. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and many cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both spouses; her sons, Adam and Frank; and one daughter, Betty Helbling; two stepdaughters, June Simon and Bernice Eckroth; and five brothers and one sister. (Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan)
