Minnie was born June 12, 1920, to Michael and Rose (Weinberger) Schmidt. She grew up in the Fallon area, where she met the love of her life, Joseph J. Fleck. They were married on May 31, 1938, and farmed in the Solen area for 38 years. They then moved to Mandan in 1976.
Minnie was a kind and generous woman. Over the years, she gave freely of her time doing volunteer work at Spirit of Life Church, where she was a founding member. Playing cards, Yahtzee and listening to Sunday happy hour on the radio were pastimes Minnie always enjoyed. Those who knew her will remember her as loving, honest, caring and hardworking. Family was central in her life and they loved having fun together when the chores were done. Sundays were a big day at their house. Minnie would cook a fabulous meal, feeding all of her family and anyone who might stop by. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren playing marble games and cards. Time spent outdoors, fishing and camping, brought Minnie great pleasure. This special woman will forever be remembered by all who loved her.
Left with fond memories are her 11 children, Edward (Marlene Berger) Fleck, Maple Grove, Minn., Clarence (Adeline Geiss) Fleck, Solen, Alphonse (Maggie Magilke) Fleck, Mandan, Marlene (Ken) Brilz, San Pablo, Calif., Rosie (Jack) Schutt, Beulah, Ilene (Bob) Meyer, Lincoln, Sally (Wayne) Geiss, Hawley, Minn., Kathy (Donald) Erhardt, Veronica (Dennis) Erhardt, Betty Thompson and Bob Thompson, all of Mandan, and Michael (Nancy Wang) Fleck, Flasher; 46 grandchildren; 91 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one brother, John (Sharon) Schmidt, Mandan; and two sisters, Rose Pittman, Mont., and Pauline Presler, Mandan.
