Obituary of Theodore Dewald

Theodore Dewald, 63, Jamestown, formerly of Streeter community, died Saturday evening at his home. He death was attributed to a heart condition.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Streeter with Rev. W. A. Larson, pastor, officiating, assisted by Rev. George Dahl, pastor of Atonement Lutheran Church, Jamestown. Interment will be in Highland Home Cemetery here with The Haut Funeral Home, Jamestown, in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Dewald was born March 7, 1916, at the family farm home southwest of Streeter in Logan county, son of Adam and Katherine (Schauer) Dewald. He received his elementary education in the in the local school and later worked on his parents farm. He and Rosella Graf were married Nov. 18, 1935, at Streeter and they made their home with his parents for several years and then entered the general merchandise business. They operated the country store north of Lehr for nine years and a store in Burnstad for one year. In 1948 the family moved into Streeter where they owned and operated Dewald's Fairway Store for 31 years until 1979. Mr. Dewald retired March 1, 1979, when the business was sold and they moved to Jamestown in April. At the time of his death he was a part-time employee at Central Dakota Nursing Home.
Mr. Dewald had been active in community affairs. He served as president of St. Luke's Lutheran Church board, and as deacon for many years. He was a charter member of Streeter Lions Club, Streeter Businessman, served 25 years on the Streeter School Board, and was a member of the Streeter Fire Department and was mayor of the community.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and four daughters, Marvin Dewald, Portland, Ore., Mrs. Archine Hoffer (Madelyn), Streeter, Mrs. Floyd Schauer (Bernice) and Mrs. Earl Johnson (Janet), both of Jamestown, Delmer Dewald, Denver, Colo., Pastor Ted Dewald Jr., Marshall, Minn., Mrs. Jerome Hehn (Eileen), Fargo; 17 grandchildren: four brothers, Arthur Dewald, Casper, Wyo., Peter Dewald, Dawson, Adolph Dewald, Jamestown, John Dewlad, Wishek; three sisters, Mrs. Ed Grooms (Barbara), Billings, Mont., Mrs. Albert Kroll (Katie), Hunting Park, Calif., and Mrs. Melvin Tergeson, (Ida), Portland, Ore. His parents, five brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
