Service of Remembrance for Hilda Hauge, 88, of Leith, ND will be Friday, April 10, 2009 at the St. John's Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Dale Carmen will officiate and burial will be at a later date at Bethesda Lutheran Church cemetery, south of Leith, ND. Visitations will be from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9th at the Evanson Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin, ND and one hour prior to the service on Friday afternoon.
HILDA AMANDA KETTERLING was born on February 17, 1921 in rural Grant County, ND to Andrew and Katie (Meidinger) Ketterling. She grew up on the Cannonball River, the oldest of seven children. Hilda went to high school in Heil, ND for two years then to Elgin High School for a year. Hilda worked in Bismarck, ND for a couple of years before moving back to help care for her ailing grandmother Ketterling.
Hilda was married to Arnold Hauge on June 24, 1944. They began their life together on their farm/ranch were they raised 10 children. Hilda was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many wedding dresses, formals and clothing for many neighbors and friends. Hilda also made many quilts for her children, grandchildren and the church mission.
She belonged to the Lone Prairie Homemakers Club, the Bethesda Lutheran Church ALCW and also taught Sunday school. Hilda was also very active in the farm/ranch operation, milked cows and raised chickens. Her husband, Arnold passed away in 1973 and Hilda stayed on the place until 2001 when she moved into Carson. She enjoyed her time spent in Carson, especially visiting with family and friends.
In January of 2006, Hilda moved to the Jacobson Memorial Care Center in Elgin, where she passed from this life on April 3, 2009.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Elsie (Duane) Emch, Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada, Virginia (Jake) Larson and Carol (Marvin) Ritz, all of Almont, ND, Mike (Grace) Hauge, Deadwood, SD, Pat (Kathy) Hauge, Carson, ND, Charlie Hauge, Stanwood, WA, Danny (Patsy) Hauge, Leith, ND, Melanie (Owen) Wells and Melodie Fuchs, all of Carson, ND; son-in-law, Gene Harper, Baldwin, ND; 35 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Striegel, Carson, ND and Lillian Nehr, Powell, WY; brothers, Hugo Ketterling, Lead, SD and LeRoy (Luella) Ketterling, Billings, MT. Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Linda, infant twins, two grandchildren, Jamie Larson and Jimmy Harper and a son-in-law, Terry Fuchs.
