1934-2010: MISSOULA - On Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, Eugene passed away at the age of 76, from congestive heart failure.
He was born on May 16, 1934, to August and Hilda (Just) Meidinger in Zeeland, N.D. He grew up on the family farm in rural North Dakota, where he also attended school.
On Nov. 22, 1961, he married Elaine Mae Feil. They resided in Wishek, N.D., where they had their first child, Sharon Jane. Later they moved to Aberdeen, S.D. They had their second child, Eugene Scott. Upon hearing of job openings in the "big city" of Seattle for Boeing, they packed up and moved. When they arrived in Seattle they were unable to locate adequate housing, so decided to follow the road back east. Upon entering Missoula, Eugene stopped at Davies Inc. and asked for a job. Missoula is where their hearts landed. They completed their family with the birth of three more children - Pamela Kay, Kevin Eugene and Brian Eugene. Eugene worked for Davies Inc. until the early '80s as a talented diesel mechanic. He then held various positions around Missoula and the surrounding area. He later established his own business as a diesel mechanic for area ranchers and farmers. He retired early due to health issues.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, his parents; and two sisters, Laura and Virginia.
He is survived by his children Sharon Conger, Scott (Julie) Meidinger, Pamela (Robert) Weber, Kevin Meidinger, and Brian (Cheryl) Meidinger; his siblings, Marlys (Dan) Sayler, Alice (Julius) Wiest, Lloyd (Carol) Meidinger, Arnold Meidinger, and Carmen (Curtis) Wiedemeier; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan and Theron Conger, Shauna and Christopher Meidinger, Rebecca, Alicia, and Matthew Weber, and Topaz, Dylan and Madison Meidinger; and one great-granddaughter, Makenzie Brush; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A viewing will take place noon-2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial and reception will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Sunset Memorial Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
