Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Barstow, Calif., for Richard Dale "Dick" Scheetz, 80, Barstow, formerly of Topeka, who died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at home.
He was born May 30, 1920, in Topeka where he spent his early life. He lived in Barstow for 41 years. He was an electrician for Santa Fe Railway and worked for the railroad for 44 years before he retired.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Barstow. He had served on the church board and as treasurer of the church.
He was a member of Barstow Lodge No. 682, AF&AM, and the Christian Business Men's Committee. He was a member and former treasurer of the American Legion and had been chairman of the board of the Santa Fe Friendship Club. He was a Boy Scouts of America volunteer.
Survivors include a son, Gregory Scheetz, Barstow, Calif.; a daughter, Linda Fischer, Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert Scheetz and Kenneth Scheetz, both in Topeka; and four grandchildren.
Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park in Barstow. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mead Mortuary in Barstow.

Richard Dale "Dick" Scheetz, 80, of Barstow, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, in Barstow. Born May 30, 1920 in Topeka, Kan., Scheetz lived in Barstow for 41 years. He worked as an electrician at the Santa Fe railroad for 44 years. He liked reading the Bible and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a financial treasurer, at-large member of the church board, involved in scouting and was a scout master. He was also a member of Barstow Masonic Lodge 682 for 51 years. He was a member and former treasurer of the American Legion, a member of the Christian Business Men's Committee and chairman of the board of the Santa Fe Friendship Club. Survivors include his son Gregory Scheetz of Barstow; his daughter Linda Fischer of Lake Havasu, Ariz.; two brothers, Robert Scheetz and Kenneth Scheetz, both of Topeka; and four grandchildren, David Fischer, Melissa Fischer, Daryl Scott, and Carrie Scott. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Mead Mortuary Chapel, 36930 Irwin Road. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at the First United Methodist Church, 608 Barstow Road. Burial will follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road.
