James Albert Gomory, 80, of Naples, Fla., formerly of Rochester, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007. "Father and Friend": Timeless love for my mother produced children, a total of God's perfect number seven. Fathered by example, disciplined with the "belt" of love, cherished my mother, a man truly sent from heaven. In all my memories he was there. Nothing I ever did changed the fact that he loved ME. He kept his promises; ice-cream after church and summer vacations. When he said it, it would BE. He had many hobbies; flying, golfing, mingling in a crowd, but he kept his family his first obsession. He understood the value of God, family and profession. A father and friend to the end.
Jim was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Joseph and Louise (Zeck) Gomory. Jim proudly served his country with the U.S. Army as a member of the Military Police. For 30 years, he taught physical education for the Rochester Area School District. Jim was inducted into the Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame in 1998; and also a member of Indiana University's I-Men Football Hall of Fame, Bloomington, Ind. While a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association., he built a long-EZ airplane. He also built the first racquetball court in Beaver County and won many tournaments. Jim was a member of the Christian Assembly, Industry, and later the Living Word Family Church, Naples.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Dale.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Louise (Marusic) Gomory, Naples; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James "Jim" Gomory, Naples; Kris and Chrissy Gomory, Naples; five daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Bobby Onuska, Beaver; Amy and Rick Melson, Naples; Carol and Larry Kraus, Hopewell Twp.; Lou Ann and Jeb Britton, Naples; Beth and Doug Knutson, Naples; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Dick and Linda Gomory, New Brighton; Tom and Chris Gomory, Beaver; Bob Gomory, in California; two sisters, Esther Majors, Beaver; Elizabeth Vogel, Butler; 15 wonderful grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
