FROSTPROOF, FL: Leonard Marvin Below, 86, of Frostproof, FL, formerly of Fremont and Port Clinton, died Thursday, June 3, 2010 at his residence in Florida.
Leonard was born May 11, 1924 in Huron, OH, the son of Louis and Gladys (Sarnes) Below. He attended Oak Harbor High School and enlisted in the United States Navy prior to graduation. Mr. Below, a World War II veteran served upon the U.S.S. Rixey as a medic in the Philippines. On April 26, 1946 he married Bernadette Hotz at St. Ann's Catholic Church, she preceded him in death on September 25, 1993. Leonard worked as a pattern maker for Hotz Foundry and Kelsey Hayes. On July 11, 2004 he married Joann Vivian Sanborn, she survives. He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Frostproof, a former member of St. Ann's Church in Fremont, Knights of Columbus, the Moose and Eagle's. Leonard loved antique cars especially his 1929 Ford Phaeton, his favorite to drive in parades. He enjoyed collecting model cars, fishing, woodworking and crafting lawn ornaments with his wife Joann.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Below of Frostproof, FL; daughter, Sandra Agnew of Cattaraugus, NY; son, Garry Below of Fremont, OH; grandchildren, Michael Agnew, Mark Agnew, James Agnew, Jennifer Pagett; 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernadette (Hotz) Below in 1993; and siblings, Harold Below, Vera Stuart, Beatrice Rook and Bernice Below.
Visitation will take place Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 at Keller-Ochs-Koch-Mason Funeral & Cremation Service, 416 S. Arch Street, Fremont, OH. Mass of Resurrection will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1021 W. State Street, Fremont, with Fr. Raymond Ensman officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the American Legion and V.F.W. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Ann's Catholic Church or Donor's Choice.
