Peter E. Zeeb, age 86, of Menno, passed away early Monday, June 02, 2008, at the Menno-Olivet Care Center, Menno, SD.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Menno, with Rev. Michael Hecht officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery. Visitations will be 4 to 9 PM, Wednesday, at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home, Menno, with the family present at 7 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers are his grandsons, Kelly Knittel, Chad Knittel, Scott Klutman, Loren Bevers, Chad Rembold, Chris Carlson, and Rob Beaner.
Peter was born on January 19, 1922, on a farm south of Menno, to Henry and Martha (Knodel) Zeeb. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed, also at the Salem Reformed Church in Menno.
On October 3, 1943, he was united in marriage to Irene Schortzman. To this union two daughters were born, Barbara Jean and Joann.
Peter farmed his entire life on a farm south of Menno. In 1993, Peter and Irene retired from farming and moved to a home in Menno. Peter also worked with many organizations and served on many boards. He was a great family man, friend and neighbor who gave much from his heart and also was a faithful servant of his church. He especially enjoyed working on various projects for the annual power show with all his friends.
Peter is survived by his wife, Irene, his daughters, Barbara (Donald) Knittel, Freeman, SD, Joann (Ronald) Beaner, Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Anna K. Redman, Menno, SD; his eight grandchildren, Kelly Knittel, Freeman, SD, Julie Oana, Sioux Falls, SD, Ranae (Scott) Klutman, Sioux Falls, SD, Chad (Joni) Knittel, Olathe, KS, Jennifer (Loren) Bevers, Sioux Falls, SD, Sherry (Chad) Rembold, St. Lawrence, SD, Kim (Chris) Carlson, Ft. Pierre, SD, and Rob (Julie) Beaner, Sioux Falls, SD; 8 great grandchildren, Jerrod Schrader, Austin and Chais Oxner, Mackenzie and Alexis Bevers, Brent Klutman and Riley Knittel, four sisters-in law, Evelyn Zeeb and Erna Zeeb, Menno SD, Irene Schortzman, Lesterville, SD, and Norma Christensen, Yankton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Harold and Ray Zeeb, one sister, Ardina Mettler, his parents-in-law Julius and Martha Schortzman, and his four brothers-in-law, Roland Mettler, Herman Redman, Kenneth Christensen, and Alton Schortzman.
