Bio: Joe Aschbacher passed away October 17th at Comfort House in McAllen TX. He was born on December 21, 1933 in Elida, New Mexico to Joe and Mayme Aschbacher. He is survived by daughters, Kitty (Norris) Moseley of Premont, TX, Clarissa (David) Saum of Artesia, NM, Joy (Jon) Getha of Parker, CO, and Elizabeth Drennan of Spring, TX; stepdaughter, Donna Herrin of Edinburg, TX; sister, Goldie (Ray) Bradshaw of Carlsbad, NM; several nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mayme Aschbacher; his first wife, Dakota Burkam; and second wife, Patsy Herrin; his niece, Caroline Bradshaw; and his stepson, Johnny Herrin. Joe was a builder/contractor. He moved to the Rio Grande Valley in 1971. He was the owner of Aschbacher Residential Construction. He began his career in commercial construction in 1984. When he retired, he'd been working for D. Wilson Construction first as an Estimator and later as a Supervisor at the University of Texas Pan American and lastly, the Museum of South Texas History in Edinburg where he remodeled the museum and then built most of the current exhibits. Joe was a musician. He played the banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, slide trombone and piano. He was also an avid fisherman. He was a founding member and president of the Rio Grande Valley REACT radio club. He also served on the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross. Memorial services will be held at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home 706 W. Sam Houston in Pharr on October 20, 2015 at 6:30pm. In Lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation may be made to Comfort House Services (617 W. Dallas, McAllen Tx 78501) or to the American Cancer Society in the name of Joe H.
