Rosie Berreth, 86 of Eureka, SD died, Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. Funeral services were held Monday, May 20th at the Eureka United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Wittstruck and the Rev. Luke Miller officiating.
Rosie Kautz was born July 14, 1915, to John Jr. and Rosina (Krause) Kautz in rural Campbell County. She received her education near her childhood home.
She married Albert R. Berreth on September 6, 1936, at the Artas Evangelical United Brethan Church and to this union were born five children. They made their home on a farm west of Artas, where they farmed for 40 years until retiring in March 1976 and moving into Eureka. Albert died March 23, 1999.
Rosie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the Eureka United Methodist Church Ladies Aid.
They loved to travel and had visited several countries abroad, as well as many areas of the United States on bus tours. They traveled as "snowbirds" for 16 years, spending their winters in Mesa, AZ. They loved using their singing talents at church and in the communities where they lived. She enjoyed doing craft work, crocheting, quilting, playing games, cooking and entertaining her family and friends. She also loved to be outdoors tending to her garden and flowers.
Survivors include three daughters and one son-in-law, Janice Weinzirl of Eureka, Patricia (Skaggs) Allen of Gering, NE and Rose and David Andersen of Mitchell, SD; one son and daughter-in-law, Lester Albert and Victoria Berreth of Haysville, KS; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; four step grandchildren; five step great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ernestine Ackerman of Wishek, ND and Julie Fischer of Aberdeen, SD and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Albert, one daughter, Bernice in infancy, one grandson, Terance in infancy, six brothers Henry Jr., William, Calvin, Earnest, Jacob, Ruben and two sisters, Esther, Lydia and two sons-in-law, Robert LeRoy Brick husband of Rose and Gary Lee Allen husband of Patricia.
Castetbearers were Marlon Weinzirl, Deight Weinzirl, Scott Weinzirl, Kelly Berreth, James Berreth and Kelly Forsythe.
Honorary casketbearers were all her freinds and relatives.
The organist was Mona Rau. The Artas Trio provided special music.
