"Happy" Berreth, 84 of Artas, SD died March 23, 1999 at Hosmer, SD. Funeral services were held Friday, March 26, 1999 at the United Methodist Church, Eureka, SD with Rev. Kenneth Oswald officiating. Burial was in the Artas Cemetery with Carlsen Funeral Home of Eureka in charge of arrangements. Albert was born June 14, 1915 in Campbell County, SD to Edward and Christina (Munsch) Berreth. This is where he grew up and attended school. He was united in marriage to Rosie Kautz on September 6, 1936 at the Artas Evangelical United Brethren Church. They made their home on a farm west of Artas where they farmed small grains and had livestock. He was a salesman for the Badger Equipment Company and Madison Silo Company. he also was a corn seed dealer. He farmed all his life in the Artas area until he retired and they moved to Eureka, SD in March of 1976. He entered the Senior Citizens Home in Hosmer, SD in May of 1996. He was a life member of the United Methodist Church, where he was very active as a Sunday School teacher and also held many different offices in the church. He was very active as a Soil Conservation Supervisor for 20 years in Campbell County. Albert and Rosie loved to travel, they traveled to different countries and also were on some bus tours. They were snowbirds for 16 winters in Mesa, AZ where they had many friends. Many will remember Albert as he was nick named "Happy"! Survivors include his wife Rosie of Eureka, SD, three daughters, Janice Weinzirl of Eureka, SD, Patricia (Gary) Allen of Loveland, CO and Rose (Dave) Andersen of Mitchell, SD, one son, Lester (Victoria) Berreth of Wichita, KS, three sisters, Ida (Dean) Hatch of Stockton, CA, Edna (Ralph) Johnson of San Jose, CA and Lorine (Harold) Lutz of Underwood, ND, three brothers, Edwin (Laura) Berreth of Herreid, SD, Edward (Dorothy) Berreth of Aberdeen, SD and Benjamin (Irma) Berreth of Pason, AZ, 10 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Bernice Jane in infancy, four brothers Arthur, Alvin, Benjamin and Milbert, one sister and one grandson, Terance Jay Weinzirl in infancy and one son-in-law Robert LeRoy Brick, husband of Rose. Casket bearers were Luke Miller, James Berreth, Kelly Berreth, Scott and Dwight Weinzirl and Kelly Forsythe.
