Joe attended school in both South Dakota and in Johnsburg, Minn. On June 6, 1944, he married Velma Landherr. Together they farmed and did custom corn shelling in the Johnsburg area until his retirement in 1976. In his spare time Joe loved to read, go bowling, play cards and watch the Minnesota Twins. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Velma Matheis, of Adams, Minn.; son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Carol Matheis, of Johnsburg, Minn.; daughters and sons-in-law: Joyce and John Wagner, of Adams, Minn.; Shirley and Roger Gordon, of Adams, Minn.; Carol and Terry Kiefer, of Adams, Minn.; special family friend, Alan Olsen, of Overland Park, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Herman and Evelyn Matheis, of Cinnaminson, N.J.; sisters: Genevieve Medgaarden, of Austin, Minn.; Cecelia Simon, of Waterloo, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Louise Landherr, Evangeline Landherr, Elizabeth Landherr, Nancy Landherr; nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his son, Richard; his parents; and four sisters.Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father James Seitz officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Johnsburg. Visitation will be held at the Adams Funeral Home today from 4-8 p.m. with a 4:30 p.m. Rosary and a Prayer Service at 7 p.m., and there will also be a visitation on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Adams Funeral Home.
