uneral services for Raymond Bauer, age 91 of Elgin will be 10:30am Saturday, March 11, at the Assembly of God Church in Elgin. Pastors Kevin Petersen and Ellis Ryherd will officiate with burial in the Prairie View Cemetery at Heil.
A family service will be held at 6:30pm on Friday evening at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Elgin.
Special music will be provided by Nila Tietz, organist; Marcy Haase and Pastor Kevin Petersen, soloists.
Serving as casketbearers are Gene, Jim, Marlow, Scott, Melissa, and David Bauer. "All friends and family are considered honorary bearers."
RAYMOND BAUER was born February 9, 1915 in Heil, ND to August and Karoline (Guthmiller) Bauer. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Heil and attended school in Heil. At an early age he began working with his parents on the farm. Raymond was united in marriage to Martha Martell on December 11, 1938 at Elgin. They farmed near Heil on the Bauer homestead. Raymond worked in the Binek Coal Mine and delivered coal by horse and wagon to area farmers and ranchers to supplement their farm income. He also worked with the ASCS office during the 1960's measuring the wheat acres and then worked on the Highway 21 resurfacing crew. Due to his health, Raymond and Martha went to Rockford Illinois in 1964. In 1967, they moved to Fargo where Raymond worked part-time as a mechanic for a trucking company. They moved into Elgin in 1982 where they continued to spend their years together.
They rented out the place but continued to be active on the farm. He raised a few horses and was always tinkering with things. He enjoyed restoring guns, guitars, accordians, and most anything that needed restoring. He was a self-taught guitar player and enjoyed music.
Martha passed away on February 13, 2000. Raymond continued to live in his home in Elgin. Due to his failing health, he entered Dakota Hills and in 2004, entered the Jacobson Memorial Care Center. He passed from this life there on Tuesday, March 7, at the age of 91 years, 8 days.
Surviving family members include his 3 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Gene and Wilma Bauer, Stillman Valley, IL; Jim Bauer, Elgin, ND; Marlow and Judy Bauer, West Fargo, ND; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter; and 1 sister-in-law,Lillian Bauer, New Leipzig, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 1 granddaughter, Penny Greybeal; 3 brothers, Albert, Arthur, and Alvin Bauer; 6 sisters, Emma Nagel; Irene Heil; Esther Bellon; Ella Laub; Laura Wilke; and Ida Weltz.
A memorial has been established.
