Talitha was born to Henry and Elizabeth Schempp on March 8, 1921. She grew up on a farm west of Freeman, S.D. She went to country school and completed the 8th grade. She was baptized on July 10, 1921 and confirmed on June 28, 1936.
She married Wilmer Kirschenman on Feb. 25, 1943 in Hartington, Neb. They made their home west of Freeman for two years and then purchased a farm southeast of Meridian, where they lived until Wilmer passed away on Feb. 26, 1980. She enjoyed her days working on the farm. Talitha moved into a house in Menno, S.D., in the fall of 1980 where she resided until her health failed her four years ago. She then became a resident in the Menno-Olivet Care Center until her death. She passed away May 7, 2013.
She is survived by her children: son, Ronald (Phyllis) Kirschenman; daughter, Shirley (Dennis) Schnabel; grandchildren: Leon (Beth) Kirschenman, Lonnie (Stacey) Kirschenman, Lucinda (Gerrard) Nelson, Travis (Shanna) Schnabel and Staci (Travis) Krant; 10 great-grandchildren: Scott, Michael, Amber, Allison, Alyssa, Gavin, Emily, Paige Kirschenman, Wesley and Grant Nelson and baby Schnabel in approximately two days; and brother-in-law Dave Kost, Viborg, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilmer; parents Henry and Elizabeth Schempp; brother Reinhold (Anna) Schempp; sisters: Carrie (Henry) Kost, Regina (Paul) Wuerffel, Martha (Richard) Schortzman, Hulda (Johnny) Boegler, Clara (Carl) Kost, Rose Kost, Johanna (Melbert) Jerke; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Her funeral was held Saturday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. at Zion Reformed Church of Menno with Pastor Travis Grassmid officiating. Organist was Donna Knodel with special music by Stacey Kirschenman, Amber Kirschenman, Emily Kirschenman and Allison Kirschenman. Pallbearers were Dennis Jerke, Staci Krant, Travis Krant, Leon Kirschenman, Lonnie Kirschenman, Scott Kirschenman, Lucinda Nelson and Travis Schnabel. Interment was at Menno City Cemetery
