He was preceded in death by a brother, James Ronald Ubelhor, and sister, Kathy Jane Ubelhor. Survivors include Shirley (Jerry) Sisson of Manchester, Mo., Robert J. Prior to his battle with cancer, Mark taught mathematics at Scott Community College in Bettendorf for 29 years. He was a longtime member of the Eastern Iowa Faculty Association and Math Department Coordinator, in addition to serving on numerous committees at the college. He mentored many younger faculty members; his door was always open to both faculty and students. In addition, he belonged to the Mathematical Association of America and the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges. He loved gardening and raising flowers.
A talented and dedicated instructor, a respected colleague and a treasured friend, it goes without saying that he will be dearly missed. The last lesson that he taught was definitely his best - how to live and die with thoughtfulness, humility, humor and grace.
