  [S927] Obituary. Elroy Hoff, 77, Eureka, SD, died Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Avera Eureka Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Friday, December 9, 2011 at Zion American Lutheran Church, Eureka, with Pastor Ryan Gage leading the service. Interment follows at the Church Cemetery. Organist will be Lana Hilgemann and the congregation will sing ?Nearer, my God to Thee? and ?Rock of Ages; Cleft for Me?. Vocalists Dennis and Margie Walker will sing ?Precious Lord, take my Hand? and a medley composed of ?Sweet hour of Prayer? and ?How Great Thou Art?. Ushers will be Don Kaul and Waldemar Beck. Visitation will be at Lien-Straub Funeral Chapel beginning 5:00 PM Thursday with a 7:00 PM prayer service. The casket will not be open at the Church. Elroy Albert Hoff, son of Hulda (Weller) and Albert P. Hoff, was born July 22, 1934 at Eureka. He was raised on his parent?s farm 3 miles E, 8 miles N., ½ mile E, and ½ mile N of Eureka. His formal education consisted of 1 year at the Eureka Public School and the rest at country school. He was then employed at Deibert Ford as a stockman and John Deere Implement as a mechanic with his dad. Elroy married Shirley Mae Funk at Zion American Lutheran Church in Eureka on August 19, 1956. They settled on their farm 4 miles E and ½ mile S of Eureka where Elroy farmed and raised cattle. In 1997, they retired due to being flooded out and moved into Eureka where Elroy lived the rest of his life. Elroy belonged to Zion American Lutheran Church where he served on the stewardship committee. His hobbies included reading and driving around the countryside. He always took pride in his machinery and kept it cleaned and polished. Elroy is survived by Shirley, his wife of 55 years; his son Kevin (Trena) Hoff of Fallon, NV; and his brother Ralph Hoff of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his father on October 15, 1969, his mother on February 3, 1993, and one granddaughter. Casketbearers will be James Pfeifle, Glenn Beutler, Lester Strobel, Greg Hoff, and Jeremy Hoff all of Eureka, and Neil Stokes of Sioux City, Iowa.
