RAPID CITY -- Joseph Zent, 94, Rapid City and formerly of Mott, N.D., died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Golden Living Center in Rapid City. Survivors include his daughter, Mildred Sauer, Bismarck, N.D.; two sons, Kenneth Zent, Great Falls, Mont., and Clifford Zent, Rapid City; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott. A Rosary service will follow at 7 p.m. at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Mott. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at the church, with the Rev. Charles Zins officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyslope Cemetery in Mott. An online guestbook is available at www.evansonjensenfuneralhome.com.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph Zent, age 94 of Mott, will be held at 10:30 am Monday, August 3, 2009 at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Mott. Fr Charles Zins will officiate with burial in Sunnyslope Cemetery at Mott.
The Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm at the Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Mott. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 pm on Sunday evening at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church.
Special music will be provided by Pat Schwartz, organist
Serving as casketbearers are Benita Deely, Tina Miller, Jerry Waddell Jr, Lee Waddell, Peggy Davis, Ken Zent Jr, Nancy Gibbs, Tracy Collins, Dean Zent, Jackie Casper, Karin Hagg, Allen Zent, Deanna Woockman and Lora Mendelsohn.
JOSEPH ZENT was born April 11, 1915 in Mandan ND, the son of Jacob and Rose (Kupper) Zent. He grew up on the family homestead southwest of Bentley, ND. He attended a local country school near his home. As a young man, he worked on the railroad and also on various farms in North Dakota during harvest season.
Joe was united in marriage to Perpetua “Peggy” Schaff on November 15, 1938 at St. John’s Church at Odense, ND. Together they raised their family and farmed in the Bentley area for many years. Four children, Mildred, Kenneth, Robert, and Clifford, were born to this union. The Zent’s moved into Mott in 1974, but continued operating the farm until retiring in 1979. His wife Peggy passed away on March 11, 1994.
Joe continued to live in Mott and when his health began to fail, he moved to the Golden Living Center in Rapid City. He passed from this life early Wednesday morning, July 29, 2009 at the age of 94 years, 3 months, 18 days.
Surviving family members include his daughter and son-in-law, Mildred and Dale Sauer, Bismarck, ND; 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Kenneth and Marlene Zent, Great Falls, MT; Clifford and Patricia Zent, Rapid City, SD; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Minnie Zent, Adeline Zent, both of Seattle, WA; and Danile Keily- Zent, Tappen, ND.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, one son, Robert; and one granddaughter, Cheryl; 3 sisters, Isabelle Heck, Ottilia Boag, and Sister Emily Zent, OSU, 3 brothers, Ralphel, Leo, and Edward Zent, and one son-in-law, Jerry V. Waddell.
