Ralph Bullinger
Ralph Bullinger, 86, Mandan, died Feb. 24, 2016, at Sanford Health, Bismarck, with his loving family by his side. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Shane Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery with military honors provided by the Mandan VFW Post No. 707 and American Legion Post No. 40.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a parish vigil at 5 p.m. followed by a St. Anthony Verein Rosary at 6:30 p.m.
Ralph was born Nov. 22, 1929, to Nick and Frances (Bender) Bullinger in St. Anthony. He was raised and educated in the Fort Rice area. Ralph entered the U.S. Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War for 13 months. He was honorably discharged in January 1954. He returned to the area after his discharge and married Lucille Heinrich on Oct. 26, 1954, in St. Anthony. They farmed south of St. Anthony until 1967. Ralph and Lucille then moved their family to Mandan, where Ralph worked at Speedy’s Tire Service for 23 years.
Ralph was a kind and generous man with a heart of gold. He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards such as rummy and pinochle in numerous clubs for many years. He also enjoyed dancing, camping and fishing. Ralph was a lifetime member of the Eagles, American Legion, the Moose and an officer and member of the St. Anthony Verein. Above all, his family was central in his life and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ralph will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Lucille; his daughters, Karen (Harold) Ternes, Cornville, Ariz., and Lorraine (Dennis) Friesz, Mandan; his son, Marvin Bullinger, Mandan; his grandchildren, Tanya Walther (Jesse), LeeAnn Ternes (Shawn Andreasen), Jeremy Bullinger (Jillian), Jessica Kok (Brandon), Lisa Robinson (William), Sara Hertz (Jaden), Lindsey Ternes and Eric Friesz and friend, Brittany; his great-grandchildren, Luke and Tyler, Aiden and Mya, and Alexis, Hannah, Braelynn, Riley and Edyn; his step-great-grandchildren; Jonah and Olivia; two sisters, Irene Morrell, Mandan, and Marlene Schweitzer, Wheatland, Wyo.; two brothers, Lawrence (Kitty) Bullinger, Davenport, Wash., and Kenny Bullinger, Mandan; two sisters-in-law, Carol Bullinger and Alice Bullinger; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Edwin; one great-grandson, Peyton Kueffler; his sisters, Rose Wetsch, Clara Hatzenbuhler, Bertha Schwartzbauer, Annie Bullinger and Linda Bullinger, who both died as infants; his brothers, Jack, Ben and Nick Bullinger; one sister-in-law, Frances Bullinger; his brothers-in-law, Mike Wetsch, Joe Hatzenbuhler and Robert Schwartzbauer; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Nick and Katherine Heinrich.
