Hilda M. (Heilers) Daunhauer, 94 of Ferdinand passed away Sunday at Scenic Hills Care Center. Survivors include sons, John & Mike Daunhauer, daughters, Ann Simons, & Jeanne BenLamine, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services 10:00 AM EDT Wednesday in St. Ferdinand Church. Hilda M. (Heilers) Daunhauer, 94, of Ferdinand died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Scenic Hills Care Center.
She was born February 26, 1920 to William and Mary (Wassing) Heilers in Mariah Hill Indiana. She married Dorcy (“Hap”) Daunhauer in Ferdinand on May 27, 1947. He preceded her in death September 3, 1989.
She and Hap owned and operated the Oasis in Ferdinand for several years. She also retired from Aristokraft and Kordes Retreat Center. She was a member of St. Ferdinand Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, St. Anne’s Sodality, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, traveling and being with family and friends. She especially enjoyed travels to Alaska and Africa.
She is survived by four children, Ann Simons and husband, Ernie, of Sheridan, Ind., Jeanne BenLamine and husband, Hammauda, of Newburgh, John Daunhauer and wife, Cheryle, of Holland, and Mike Daunhauer and wife Debbie of Port Orford, Orego; six grandchildren, Hew Simons, Mike Brinksneader, Hassan BenLamine, Hannah Thyen, Laura Whitsitt and Traci Mattingly; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was one child, infant Ruth, one grandson, Ahmad BenLamine, and nine brothers and sisters; Robert Heilers, Albert Heilers, Irvin Heilers, Cecelia Heilers, infant, Helen (Othmar “Oats”) Weyer, Emma Cummings (Tom), Eleanor Rupprecht (“Maxi”), Verena Buren (Don) and Lucille (Walter) Bartley.
Funeral services for Hilda will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the St. Ferdinand Church cemetery. Friends may call 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Becher Funeral Home, Ferdinand.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center C/O Memorial Hospital & Health Care Center.
