Funeral services will be conducted by Peters Funeral Home on Saturday, September 30, 2006, at 11:00 a.m., at the Ebenezer Reformed Church, 235 James St., Shafter. Interment will follow at Shafter Memorial Park. Pastor Vernon Pollema will officiate at the service. Visitation at Peters Funeral Home will be Friday, September 29, from 2-8 p.m. Olive R. Mettler, age 90, widow of Alvin E. Mettler, died at her home in Shafter, California, on September 21, 2006. She had been ill an incapacitated for several years. She was born June 4, 1916, in Lodi, California, and moved with her parents to the Shafter area in 1920. She attended local schools and married Alvin E. Mettler of Shafter in 1935. A homemaker in the family home north of Shafter for her entire life, she was a life-long member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Shafter, where she sang in the choir for many years. Olive is survived by a daughter, Marion Mettler of La Jolla, CA; and a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Betty Mettler of Walnut Creek, CA; three grandchildren, Amanda Murphy of Seattle, WA, Samantha Southern of Sacramento, CA, and David Mettler of New York City; and three great- grandchildren. Olive was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother all her life, and her children and family members will miss her quiet support, balance and comfort.
