Carolus "Charles" Ferner Birth: Aug. 4, 1811, Switzerland Death: May 7, 1854 Rochester Monroe County New York, USA Carolus "Charles" Ferner was born on 4 August 1811, in Switzerland, the eldest son and first child of Johann Jacob Ferner and Anna Maria Rieg. By 1813, Jacob and Anna Maria had resettled in Godramstein, Rheinland-Pfalz, Bayern, where they added 7 additional children to their family. On 1 November 1836, Charles married Sophia Ritter, the widow of Henricus "Henry" Feser, a military man. The marriage ceremony was performed in Saint Stephanus' Roman Catholic Church in Albersweiler, a village nearby Godramstein. Charles and Sophia settled in Albersweiler for a few years and had 4 children while living there, but in 1840, Charles left for America, settling in Rochester, New York. Sophia followed in 1843. Charles earned a modest living as a cabinetmaker. In May of 1854, Charles became ill with an inflammation of his lungs; he died on 7 May 1854, and was buried on 9 May 1854.
