HAVANA - Robert D. Huber, 79, of Havana passed away at 6:17 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.
He was born Feb. 3, 1932, in Easton, Ill., to Alvin and Bessie (Williamson) Huber.
He married Louise Stufflebeam on Feb. 6, 1955, in Easton.
Mr. Huber is survived by his wife, Louise, of Havana; four sons, Mark Huber of Mellen, Wis., Randall Huber of Riverside, Calif., Daniel Huber of Bonita Springs, Fla., and David M. (Jeanny) Huber of Havana; a daughter, Jennifer (Jerry) Cekander of Mahomet, Ill.; and six grandchildren. Also surviving are five brothers, Marvin "Bud" Huber of Easton, Lyle Huber of Havana, Leland Huber of Columbia, S.C., George Huber of Huntley, Ill., and Larry Huber of Westville, Ill.; and one sister, Marilyn Seacrist of Creve Coeur, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Don "Babe" Huber.
Mr. Huber was a member of First United Methodist Church of Havana.
He served as chief deputy of Mason County from 1964 to 1966, when he was elected sheriff. He served as sheriff of Mason County for one term and then served as chief deputy under Sheriff Rich Walker from 1974 until 1989. In 1989 he became Havana chief of police and held that office until retirement in 1994.
Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Havana at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011. Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will follow the services at Easton Cemetery. The Rev. Sidney Davis will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mason District Hospital Building Fund, Havana High School Booster Club or Havana DARE.
