BLATTNER -- The funeral of the late Charles Blattner occurred from the family residence, 322 North D street, Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock. Service were conducted by Rev. A. Cato Kaye, of the Congregational church, music being furnished by Mesdames J. C. Williams and J. A. Kalbach and Messrs Herbert Davis and Warren Kalbach.
The local lodge of Eagles, the Bartender's Union and Iowa Tribe No.4, Improved Order of Red Men, attended in a body, jointly furnished pallbearers and escorted the remains to their resting place in forest cemetery. The pall bearers were Alex Jessup, Henry Sondregger,Jr., Tom Martin, Will Jacobs, John Mordan and Ed Matthews. The services were largely attended and many beautiful floral offerings attested the high esteem in which the deceased was held by a large circle of friends.
Mr. Blattner was the son of Charles Blattner, one of the early settlers and prominent citizens of Oskaloosa. He was 42 years old, having been born and lived all his life in the house where he died. As a child, a boy and young man he was popular with his associates and his untimely end is mourned by many true friends. He was married in 1890 to Miss Henrietta Landmesser, and is survived by his wife, his brother, Mr. Fred Blattner,and three sisters, Mrs. Louisa Blattner and Mrs J. E. Parks, of Oskaloosa, and Mrs. Laura Dougherty, of Ottumwa.
Those in attendance from outside the city, relatives of the deceased, were F. Hoffmann, grandfather of Mrs. Blattner, from Marshalltown; George Blattner, an uncle, and daughters Lou and Mary, of Prairie City; Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Gilbert and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Cullen of Ottumwa and Mrs. and Mrs. Tom Albers of Eveland.
The relatives feel themselves under lasting obligations to the many friends and the organizations who have shown every consideration and been of service during the sickness, at the death and at the funeral, and they herewith express deepest appreciation and gratitude for attentions paid and favors conferred.
