- WALTER OTTENBACHER
Walter and Leona Ottenbacher
Walter Ottenbacher, born November 21, 1918 in Campbell County, South Dakota,
was the son of William and Christina (Heiser) Ottenbacher, both now deceased.
Their family included sister Helen (Mrs. Robert) Mettler and brothers,
Gottlieb, Otto, Adolph and Oscar of Eureka, South Dakota, and William, Jr. and
Alvin of Aberdeen, South Dakota and Milbert (deceased).
Walter completed an eighth grade education and was engaged in farming.
On October 22, 1944 Walter married Leona Schumacher, born December 30, 1922 in
Campbell County, to Jacob M. and Matilda (Pfeifle) Schumacher. Jacob was born
November 17, 1894 in Russia and died July 26, 1974. Matilda was born May 10,
1899. Leona's family included Adeline

6, 1920, Victor Schumacher, born November 4, 1924, Evangeline Clark, born April
22, 1926, Paul, born November 13, 1928, Lawrence, born August 29, 1932, Eileen
(Geinger), born September 15, 1930, Robert R. Schumacher, Mildred Kluckman,
born June 28, 1934, and Ray, born September 26, 1936.
On September 22, 1984 Leona married Fred Scheuffele of Long Lake, South Dakota.
They are living at Eureka, South Dakota where Leona is employed as a nurses aid
at the Eureka Community Hospital.
Walter and Leona had eight children: Larry, Wayne, Sharleen, Dennis, Paulette,
Nancy, Clyde and Jeffrey.
Larry and his wife, Leah, live in Miller, South Dakota where he is a state
trooper. He has two boys, Jerome and Dale, a stepdaughter Tammy and stepson,
Britt.
Wayne and his wife, Carol, live in Long Lake, South Dakota where Wayne works as
a plumber. They have two daughters and one son.
Sharleen is married to Jerry Imberi and lives at Eureka, South Dakota. She is a
secretary at N-S Building Supplies and Stanley Hieb Trucking. They have two
daughters, Michelle and Amanda.
Dennis is married to Marty Anderson and resides in Aberdeen, South Dakota where
he works at K. O. Lee Company. Marty runs a day-care center. They have two boys,
Duane and Dustin.
Paulette Adam lives in Brookings, South Dakota and works for the alumni center.
She has one daughter, Bobbie Jo.
Nancy Johnson lives in Brookings, South Dakota and is manager of the Taxi
Department. She has two daughters, Billie Jo and Julie Marie.
Clyde is the meat cutter at the Eureka Red Owl, is married to Roberta Bachman
and has one daughter, Teri Jo. Roberta works at Northwest G. F. Mutual Insurance
Company.
Jeffrey lives in Eureka and works for Beautician Supplies out of Sioux Falls,
South Dakota.
