Marguerite Guthmiller

Marguerite Guthmiller, 85, died peacefully on January 26, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, January 30, 2012, at Peace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, with Pastor Paul Stjernholm officiating. Burial will be at Hills of Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be held with the family on Sunday evening from 5:00 ? 8:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home West.
Marguerite was born September 16, 1926, in Yankton, SD, the daughter of Raymon and Hazel (Syverud) Schmelzel. Her mother died in childbirth, and she was adopted and raised by loving parents, Herbert and Gurine Horst. She grew up in the Irene area and graduated from Irene High School.
On July 14, 1944, she married Emmett Guthmiller in Little Rock, Arkansas. They began raising their family in the Menno area on a farm, until later moving to Sioux Falls. Marguerite retired from a job she loved at Horner Waldorf/Champion International Box Company and enjoyed 30 years of retirement. She loved reading, water aerobics, fishing, camping and spent many years wintering in Texas in the Brownsville area.
She is survived by her husband, Emmett; a sister, Vivian Barber, Lakeland, Colorado; and four daughters, Marietta (Merlyn) Brandt, Connie (Jim) Dam, Elaine (Russ Nielsen) Grandgenett, and Jeanette (Tom) Torgerson, all of the Sioux Falls area; as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and adopted parents; daughter, Sandra Wellnitz; sister and brother-in-law, Lucetta and Don Johnson; sister, Edith Grimes, Sioux City; and great grandson, Jacob Brunk.
