Alvin Kirschenmann, son of Christina (Kurle) and John Kirschenmann, was born Feb. 22, 1920, on their farm 2 miles southeast of Hosmer. This is where he was raised and attended country school. He attended Hosmer High School, graduating with the Class of 1938. He married Adina Schaible April 11, 1943, and they settled on the family farm. Side by side, Alvin and Adina worked the land and cared for livestock. In 1975 they began farming with their daughter, Joyce and her husband, Dennis Heyne. The last two months, Alvin lived at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. Alvin belonged to St. Paul's Congregational Church in Hosmer where he held many board positions over the years, enjoyed teaching the adult Bible study group, and with his wonderful tenor voice, loved to sing in the Church Choir and the Men's quartet group. For several years he served as a board member of the Hosmer Farmers Telephone Co. He was a Farmer's Union Director and also served on the Sangamon Township Board. Alvin spent all his life farming. He felt blessed caring for the land and livestock, which the Lord had given him. After he retired he continued to help on the farm and enjoyed driving his pickup out to the fields. After his wife passed away, his Border collie dog "Sparky" became his trusted companion. Alvin was a Christian man who loved the Lord and tried to live his life giving God glory and praise. His family will dearly miss him. The Lord now welcomes home another Angel. Grateful for having shared his life are two daughters, Eloise (Ed) Appletoft of Aberdeen and Joyce (Dennis) Heyne of Hosmer; one sister, Sarah (Eugene) Mehlhaff of Aberdeen; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson. Alvin was preceded in death by his father on Jan. 3, 1950, his mother on July 11, 1955, his wife on Dec. 8, 1998, two brothers, (Ruben and Elmer) and four sisters, (Bertha Pietz, Ida (Rueb) Schock, Esther Knittel, and Marie Weishaar).
