Monica Eckroth
Monica Eckroth, 92, Bismarck, died Sept. 13, 2007, at St. Alexius Medical Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, at Christ the King Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Albert Leary celebrating. Interment will follow the services in Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4 p.m. and a parish vigil at 8 p.m. Visitation continues one hour before services at the church Monday.
Monica was born July 25, 1915, in rural Morton County, the daughter of Peter and Rose (Renner) Helbling. She graduated from Mandan High School in 1935. Monica married George Eckroth June 16, 1936, in Fallon. They moved to Mandan in April 1937. After her family was raised, Monica worked for Bismarck Early Childhood Education Program for several years as an events coordinator. She gave countless hours as a volunteer for her church and many organizations throughout her life. She was proud to have been a 64-year member of Catholic Daughters of America.
In all of her busy life Monica's family was the highlight in her life. She took great pride in raising her family of seven children. She found unique characteristics in each of her grandchildren. At Christmas she would find that special gift for each grandchild. When Monica had spare time she would enjoy a game of bridge.
Monica's charming personality will be missed by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Bill) Schmidt, Mandan, and Marcia (Phil) Maring, Kenyon, Minn.; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Rick (Peggy), San Clemente, Calif., Bill (MaryAnn), Mandan, Loran, Bismarck, Doug (Leta), Phoenix, and Marvin (Kathy), West Bank, British Columbia, Canada; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Ida (Hal) Robinson, El Paso, Texas; and one brother, Jack Helbling, Mandan.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, who died in 1985; one sister, Angie Johnson; and one brother, Matt Helbling.
Memorials may be directed to Christ the King School.
