TRAVERSE CITY - Robert F. "Bob" Moss, 75, of Interlochen, passed away peacefully at Munson Medical Center on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2003, after a valiant struggle with a prolonged illness. Born Oct. 19, 1927, in Dearborn, he was the son of Carl and Myrna (Pixley) Moss. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, he moved to Interlochen in 1946 to help with the family business. He married the love of his life, Lavinia Schaub, in October 1951, and they continued to be residents of Interlochen for over 50 years. Bob was a machinist for Cone Drive Gear from 1951 until his retirement in 1988. During that time, he was a member of UAW Local 21 and a strong union supporter. Bob loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed baseball as well. He loved spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lavinia; daughters, Marilyn Mero of Houghton Lake and Loretta (David) Pratt of Lansing; sons, Gary (Jayne Sleder) Moss of Traverse City and Glenn (Martha) Moss of Caro; his brother, Carl (Mary) of Williamston; grandchildren, Robert, Daniel and Sarah Pratt and Julius Moss; stepgrandchildren, Charles and Rachel Mero; great-grandchildren, Paige and Lily; step-great-grandchild, Ashleigh. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Carl; his mother, Myrna; his stepfather, Arvin; and his son-in-law, Philip. Friends may call on Sunday, Aug. 17, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, where a rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Father Gerald Micketti will officiate. The family has asked that memorials be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
